After years of publishing on Medium, I’ve decided to make the move to Substack. The reason is simple: control over publication and a closer connection to you, my reader.
Medium served its purpose for a while, but over time, the platform started to feel less like a community and more like a content farm. The algorithm often buried thoughtful work in favor of clickbait, and the reader experience became cluttered with paywalls, pop-ups, and irrelevant recommendations. It felt like writing into a void, hoping someone might stumble across my work, if the algorithm allowed it.
Substack gives us a direct line to each other. No algorithm in the middle. If you subscribe, you get what I write. This shift matters. It allows my writing to be intentional and human.
Also, from what I can tell, and my friends over here say, Substack is actively fostering a better community for writers. The tools are built around conversation, not just publishing. There’s more room to experiment, collaborate, and build trust.
So if you’ve followed my work in the past, thank you. This new space will be cleaner, more consistent, and more personal. I hope it feels more like a dialogue, because that’s what writing should be.
